competition. The JV Guard having won every regional contest they competed in and being bumped up two classes twice earned 4th Place in the Scholastic AA Division Purple, with an overall higher score than 17 other school's Varsity guards at the North Texas Colorguard Association Grand Championships in March. The Varsity Guard Placed 5th in the Scholastic A Division Red with only 4 tenths of a point separating 3rd to 5th places in addition to having an overall score higher than all but one guard in the highest scholastic class (Scholastic Open).
Congratulations to the students, parents and directors of the Cougar bands for such outstanding accomplishments!

JV Guard at Championships
This April, the Western Hills Cougar Bands competed in the UIL Region 7 Concert and Sight Reading Contest at Burleson High School. Again this year, both the Varsity and Non-Varsity Bands performed very well! The Non-Varsity Symphonic Band earned a Superior Rating on Stage and an Excellent Rating in Sight Reading (only the second time in school history a Non-Varsity band from Western Hills has made ones on stage).
The Varsity Wind Symphony earned its SEVENTH consecutive Concert Band Sweepstakes award by earning Superior Ratings both in Concert and Sight Reading. This award, combined with this year's Marching Band Superior ratings, earned an overall Band Program UIL Sweepstakes award, marking six out of the last Seven years for that award -- continuing to extend the school's record of sweepstakes which is second only to Southwest in Fort Worth ISD. Additionally, over spring break, the Cougar Bands traveled to California to compete in the Forum Music Festival and earned that national festival's highest rating of "Gold" for their outstanding performance (with a combined group and only two "trip band" rehearsals). This continues to be the most consistently successful the Western Hills Band has ever been in the history of the school.
